OLAYIWOLA

ADETU

is DEAD

Honourable Olayiwola Waheed Adetu is dead, he died at the age of 85 years old after complaining of weaknesses and was taken to an hospital in Sagamu, where he died on arrival.

'layiwola as fondly called by my Late father, Aaree Afolabi Adetu is a man of peace. He was a councillor in 1976 under ijebu Remo Local government.

He left for london in 1965 and lived in London for 10 years, no wonder he was known as Olayiwola Adetu of London, a party in London in those days is not complete without him and his friends not being around.
I was told he went to London in the same plane with Otunba Adebayo (kal and Kay insurance), this was confirmed to me by otunba himself.

When he returned to Nigeria he became highly connected to the extent that, there is no office he does not know somebody.

Between 1979-83 him and Uncle Alayo was a stunch supporter of NPN, at the tail end of 2nd republic his house and that of iya Eleba was marked burning. The situation in Sagamu and the whole of Remo  was tensed, a meeting was said to have taken place at the central mosque at Falawo market after a jumat service where everyone in opposition to the Unity party houses were identified for destruction after the declaration of Sheu Shagari as the winner of 1983 general election. It was late in the night when we heard the voice of Uncle Alayo saying the following "kon jo'le Ye mi, dede ule e wa ni Sagamu e maa Jo" meaning if my mother's house is burnt all the houses in Sagamu will become ashes too.

Thank God that the tension eased and no house in Sagamu was burnt, but that was not the situation in other Remo towns Ilisan, Iperu and Ikenne were battle fields.

He left the opposition and returned to the mainstream politics in the western Nigeria in all subsequent republic. Till his death he was a leader of the APC in Ogun State.

A little of him I encountered in politics was in Sagamu during the June 12 election to elect MKO, it was an option A4 so we all lined up behind the party you wanted to vote for (there were 2 parties then NRC and SDP) the ingenuity of Olayiwola Adetu was in control.
The counting starts at 12noon, so he told everyone that wanted to queue for NRC to line up first which they did and asked them if they are still expecting anyone to which they said no, he now mobilised all that wanted to vote Abiola to start queueing and to our surprise the SDP line was times 3 of NRC.

He died on Saturday 24th of April 2021. He was buried on Sunday 25th according to Islamic rites.
He is survived by many children and grand children
8 days Fridau will be held on Sunday 2nd of May 2021.
The 8 day fridau was held and was so interestingly attended by many people.
