Guinness names Nigeria’s Adetu new CEO

Diageo, the global leader in spirits, is placing its trust in a homeboy, having appointed a senior Nigerian manager, Seni Adetu as its new CEO for Guinness Nigeria Plc. Adetu will replace Devlin Hainsworth who has been posted to Kenya.

Adetu is the first Nigerian to be appointed CEO since the late Raph Alabi who served from 1994 to 1996 when he moved on to become chairman.
Adetu is currently the CEO and Group Managing Director of EABL and will assume duty as Managing Director/CEO of Guinness Nigeria on July1, 2012 according to a statement by company chairman Babatunde Savage.
Adetu has led East African Breweries Limited, EABL since July 2009 and prior to this role, he served as Managing Director of Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited after joining Guinness from Coca Cola in 2006.
According to Savage, “During his time in Ghana, Adetu led the integration of Guinness Ghana and Ghana Breweries Limited, creating a winning culture and driving a strong market share growth. Under his leadership, EABL has risen to become the most capitalised company listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange and a clear leader in the East African region.”
The business has also rapidly expanded with great momentum built behind EABL’s total adult beverage strategy across the consumer spectrum with the innovation agenda being deemed as leading edge under Adetu’s stewardship in this market.
EABL recently celebrated the successful acquisition of Serengeti Breweries Ltd in Tanzania and Adetu has personally championed EABL’s Force for Good agenda, including exceptional contributions to the Water of Life programme and major strides have been made in securing better local agricultural inputs which have been instrumental within EABL’s supply chain.
Adetu’s commitment to developing talent has been inspiring and this is evident by the fact that several East Africans within the company have assumed leadership roles across Diageo globally. He has made a considerable difference at EABL and significant contributions to East African communities.
Hainsworth joined Diageo in 1999 and was the MD of Guinness Ghana until 2006. It is a testament to Hainsworth’s leadership style and his commitment to creating the right environment to succeed, that Guinness Nigeria has just been awarded The Best Place to Work by the Great Place to Work Institute.
Since Patrick Healy replaced Alabi in 1996, Guinness has had expatriate CEOs
As the saying goes a golden fish has no hidden place, so is Our dear Seni Adetu, my your reign as CEO be peaceful but may the the Guinness grow to more higher level that you will forever be remember as a great first indigenous CEO.
My "Egbon" on behalf of the whole Adetu family world wide, the ones in  Romania inclusive i say a big congratulation
